The House of Nisbet started
as a doll-making venture in the early 1950s. In the late 1970s, it added
collectible teddy bears to its line. Nisbet dolls and bears are known for their
authenticity and quality. A team of dedicated and highly skilled
needle-women in West Country of England create the company's products.
Much of the work is done by hand, meaning no two bears are exactly alike.
This is the Body Language Bear
(model 5301). His special talent is that
"He speaks to you in the way you pose him."
And he's very posable, in that his arms and legs bend. He stands on a
special metal plate, so that he doesn't need any support. He's part of a
limited edition
of 5,000 bears, all denoted by a sewn in label and an accompanying
certificate of authenticity,
which is signed by Jack himself. In addition,
each bear is signed
by his creator (and founder of the House of Nisbet), Jack Wilson, on a pure
leather patch. Fully jointed, he's 15" tall, made of a luxury mohair,
which is distressed in the style of Delicatessen and Jack's Bear. He has
black eyes, an embroidered nose and mouth, and leather paw pads. He's from
1987.
