BEAR # 40 ARTIST: LINDA SPIEGEL of
BEARLY THERE
SOLD
Linda Spiegel and her Bearly
There are likely known to most teddy bear collectors. One of the earliest
bear artists, she has come to be one of the best known. This is
Don't Shoot,
a special little 8" teddy with black glass eyes and black embroidered nose and
mouth on a tan snout. His over-sized ears give him a unique look.
The original tag says that
Rosemary Volpp (a writer and
illustrator of The Teddy Bear Encyclopedia & several other teddy bear books)
named the bear. We don't know, but we suspect Rosemary was inspired by the
cartoon showing Teddy Roosevelt on a hunt, refusing to shoot a small bear cub.
It's from that cartoon, of course, that the phrase "teddy bear" came into use.
This little black bear is fully jointed and very anxious to come to your house1988.
Some of the other bears think
my ears are too big. I think they just make me that much cuter.

BEAR # 118 ARTIST: LINDA SPIEGEL of
BEARLY THERE
SOLD
Meet Dreamboat. He's a stocky
15" bear made from a cream colored wool-looking fur. He has brown
iridescent eyes, brown embroidered nose and mouth, and cloth paw pads.
Unlike most of Linda's bears, his head is not jointed, though his limbs are.
He's got something of a twist to his head, giving him that dreamboat look.
He can stand without support. He wears an ivory bow. He's number 64
of a limited edition
of only 200. Linda has
autographed the hang tag.
Hi! They call me
Dreamboat.
Let's talk.
All the girls like my build.
When do we eat?
I said, when do we eat?
Original tag showing this is

and autographed by Linda
Spiegel-Lohre.
