BEAR # 52 ARTIST: POPPLESTONE BEARS designed by
CAROLE BOWLING & handcrafted by CHARLOTTE KANE
SOLD
Carol Bowling
is best known for her dolls. She has won several DOTY (Doll Of The Year)
Awards and was the subject of Katherine Lasky's book Dollmaker. Carol
designed these two bears for Popplestone Bears of Massachusetts. They were
handcrafted by Charlotte Kane
in 1985. This is "Z," one of a very special breed of bears named for a
local name for cobblestones rounded smooth by waves. Z has black glass
eyes, a pompom nose, and wears a blue ribbon with a bell on it. He's 8"
tall in the sitting position. His design makes him sit with his arms
behind him, in that they do not move. His legs do move, though he's not
jointed. This bear comes with a booklet telling the story of the
Popplestone Bears.
Hi! I'm Z!
Popplestones are lucky.
A special profile.
Don't you like my pompom
nose?
My sewn in tag.
My booklet.

Like Z, Ginger Peachy was
designed by Carol Bowling
and was handcrafted by
Charlotte Kane in 1985.
She is also one of that special breed of bears named for a local name for
cobblestones rounded smooth by waves. She has black glass eyes, a pompom
nose, and wears a purple ribbon. She's 8 1/2" tall in the sitting
position. She is not jointed, but unlike his brother above, can sit with
her arms in front of or behind her. This bear comes with a booklet telling
the story of the Popplestone Bears.
Hi. I'm Ginger Peachy.
Could you use a lucky bear
next time you buy a lottery ticket?
I think I'm cuter than Z.
What's cuter, most pompom
nose or my purple ribbon?
